March 27th, Australia Day 36

These are photos I took of the AFL game on Easter Sunday, as well as a few photos of the pub I go to downtown for trivia. In addition to these photos I also have video of various aspects of the AFL match.

This is a practice footy field I saw as I got off the bus to go see the AFL game. Posted by Hello

This is the entrance to the Sydney Cricket Ground (S.C.G.). Posted by Hello

This, and the next 2 photos, form a panorama of the inside of the S.C.G. Posted by Hello

These next 3 shots offer a panorama of the playing field from my seat. I was only 3 rows up from the action and that's why the field is so close. Posted by Hello

This, and the next photo, show what a footy field looks like from above. Posted by Hello

These are special stands designated for use by certain special people. Posted by Hello

This is a banner the Hawthorn Hawks team placed on the field before the game began. The Hawks then ran onto the field through this banner. Posted by Hello

This is the AFL version of a face-off called a "bounce" because the umpire bounces the ball on the field for the opther players to catch. This happens at the beginning of every quarter or after a goal has been scored. Posted by Hello

That little section of brown and yellow indicates where the supporters of the Hawthorn Hawks were sitting as a bloc. The sea of red and white around them indicates the supporters of the Sydney Swans. Posted by Hello

This is a picture of the cheering throngs that were present at the game. Posted by Hello

This is an umpire signalling that a "goal", 6 points, has been scored. You can see that he marks it off by pointing with 2 fingers, 1 on each hand. Posted by Hello

This is an umpire signalling that a "behind", a 1 point goal, has been scored. You can see that he does so with 1 finger only Posted by Hello

This is the mascot of the Sydney Swans. Posted by Hello

During half-time, several teams of the Little AFL trotted onto the field and played against each other. These are the future stars of the game. Posted by Hello

The people in the center are water carriers who bring water to the umpires and players whenever they have a chance. Posted by Hello

This shot I am particularly proud of. I was trying to get an example of a good mark but wasn't meeting with much success. There is a delay from the time I press the button on my camera to the time it actually takes a picture. For this shot, I simply guessed when I should push the button and I was extremely pleased with the result. The Sydney Swans player has actully intercepted the ball froma Hawthron Hawks kick, thus preventing a goal and getting the ball. This shot shows him grabbing the ball, which is the red ellipse in the center of the shot. I think this is the best action shot I've taken so far. Posted by Hello

This is just some players playing footy as they ordinarily do. Posted by Hello
